Family Deaths
Even though it was later shown and hinted at throughout Game of Thrones that Jon Snow was actually Rheagar Targaryen’s son and not Ned Stark’s “bastard son,” Jon still lost almost all of his family. Elwin, Clive’s father, is beheaded in front of Joshua, his youngest child. This is similar to how Ned Stark was killed.
After Elwin dies, Joshua’s Phoenix completely takes over, which causes a fight between Ifrit and the sad death of Clive’s younger brother. Even though Jon Snow is not the main character in Game of Thrones after these deaths because there are so many other main characters and stories, it is clear that during his time at the Night’s Watch, he became a much stronger and more confident soldier, just like Clive does after losing his family in Final Fantasy 16.
Wolf Companion
If the fact that they both have pet wolves wasn’t enough to show how similar these two people are, that’s for sure not a mistake. Players saw Clive bond with his new pet wolf Torgal when he was young during the 2-hour introduction in the demo. By the time of the “Eikonic Challenge,” the two were fully grown. Jon Snow was also given a Direwolf named Ghost when he was young.
Players will be able to control Torgal during Penalty Kick Online, just like Jon Snow had Ghost by his side during his time with the Night’s Watch. At the end of the series, they got back together. Even though this is not a specific trait shared by the two characters, it is another thing that brings them closer together and makes them more alike in both worlds.
Forced To Serve
Given that Jon Snow had nowhere to go but the Night’s Watch after Catelyn Stark rejected him for being a “bastard son,” and Clive’s mother hated him for being rejected by the Phoenix and forced to serve as a soldier, the only thing that saved them was their potential in battle.
Not only did the fact that they had to serve save their lives, but it also gave them the tools they needed to become well-known warriors and get back to where they belonged, especially Jon Snow. Fans had a lot of problems with how Game of Thrones ended, but they hope that George R.R. Martin’s other books will get it right, and Final Fantasy 16 seems to be working up to Clive being a “chosen one” figure.
Outcast In The Family
Even though Clive Rosfield isn’t known as a bastard child like Jon Snow is in the Stark family, his mother Anabella Rosfield has nothing but contempt for him and betrays him because he wasn’t thought to have the power of Dominant of the Phoenix. After Elwin dies and Joshua’s Phoenix goes on a killing spree, it turns out that Clive is the second Dominant of Fire, also known as Ifrit.
This is a lot like how Catelyn Stark turned her back on Jon Snow because she thought he was the child of her husband Ned’s affair, even though Jon is the true heir to the Iron Throne as Aegon Targaryen. Even though the main plot of Final Fantasy 16 will be about Clive finding out from Ifrit that Joshua has died, there are clear parallels here.
Revenge Path
Both Jon and Clive are hurt by people they care about. Jon was killed by other members of the Night’s Watch before being brought back to life, and Clive’s mother used him to the point where his death was recommended. Fans of “Game of Thrones” know that Jon was able to get even with the people who had actually stabbed him in the back.
In Final Fantasy 16, Clive’s anger could be taken out on many people, including his mother, those who killed his father, and whoever or whatever made Ifrit kill Joshua.
Final Fantasy 16 is available on PS5 right now.
